MODRA

The newest and GREATEST thing that I've laid my eyes on is a company named MODRA. Now, I cannot express enough how cool and creative this team is when creating their textiles. Three people run the show: Tamalyn Shea (Co-founder/Creative Director), Fernando Apodaca (Co-Founder/Art Director), and Sarah Shea (Co-Founder/Designer). I was fortunate enough to meet these three at the ITMA Showtime event in High Point, NC. Each artist seemed truly passionate about their artwork and it was obvious in the fabrics they displayed. After speaking with the three, they explained how their design process works and it's truly something interesting. Inspired by nature and fine art, the MODRAdesign brings originality to the textile world. The designs are created from such things as charcoal, wood,  paper, oil paint and ink and transformed onto such fabrics as wool, linen, cotton and velvet. Each fabric is first created in a piece of artwork and then the design is transferred to the preferred fabric. This is by far my favorite brand and I have the hopes of working with them in the future with my designs! Definitely check them out, their website is: modradesign.com and they also have a Facebook and blog.
Enjoy!

SHOWTIME ITMA Market June2014

Today was the day I have been WAITING for! Now, for most people (boyfriend included), going to a giant building with a zillion fabric splotches would not be the least bit desirable. Luckily for me, it's a DREAM come true. This was my first time at the Showtime ITMA (International Textile Market Association) and I was not sure exactly what to expect. But let me tell you, as soon as I stepped into that room, whew, I was honestly overwhelmed. A variety of tastes were showcased at ITMA and the latest trends are displayed for buyers, designers and other artists to purchase and to be aware of. Being a student has its own downsides of course, but the perks always trump over them. Having the opportunity to visit conferences where only buyers and sellers are invited inside is a lucky handoff if you ask me. I won't spoil all the trends that I saw at this years Showtime, but I will post some inspirational styles that will be making the visual catwalk across the design spectrum this year. ENJOY! :D

Woodward Household Renovation and Expansion Project

Holly and Mark Woodward live in the heart of High Point, North Carolina. The couple is looking to renovate and expand on their lovely abode with a mixture style of Cape Cod and Nantucket. Their combined style choices will lead me to produce a home that is light, lofty, airy and spacious. Holly and Mark are very fashion forward in their personal lives and I will mirror that same characteristic in this design.

(This is unfortunately not a REAL client, but a mere class assignment. BUT, all the same, it shall be fabulous!)

Below, I have chosen five photos that are inspirational to the design I will create.

Keep posted for my project journey :D
