Creme dela creme

It was a Thursday. But no ordinary Thursday. February 20th, 2014 held the happiness to my destiny. I, Kolby L. Ingram, was introduced to the one and only Baker Furniture showroom in High Point, NC. Words cannot describe. The only thing I can say though, is that I may go set all of my furniture on fire so that I can replace it with Baker's goods. The tour was rich in information and I truly got the background story on each designers vision. The furniture and accessories were to die for. Thirty thousand dollar wallpaper, forty thousand dollar Chinese cabinet, heck, I saw a golden frog the size of my hand that was nearly twelve thousand dollars! By far the best showroom I have visited though. I photographed a few of my favorite pieces (though I could never do justice to this showroom and it's accents!) But I do hope you enjoy them!

The V-day/B-day mashup

Valentine's Day is always stressful beyond belief. AND on top of that, I just happen to have a boyfriend with a Valentine's birthday. Yes, I just said that. No matter what I do, where we go, or what I have planned, it just never seems enough. Ever. But, after playing hardcore arcade games, playing in the snowfall and eating too much food, it was a great day. Did I mention food? Because we had Japanese food TWO days straight. Whew. I'm sure you can imagine the current state of my digestive system. But it was worth the stomach aches because the Japanese styled rooms in both restaurants were simply created and beautifully mastered. Every time I visit a Japanese restaurant, I adore the decor and endless plant life that surrounds the interior of the building. So, for the enjoyment and reflection of my wondrous weekend, here are a few of my favorite Asian-inspired rooms! I hope you enjoy!

This and that..

Much like my bio says, I am twenty-two. I believe I act my age on many levels, but  I do have one tiny secret, which isn't much of a secret. I love (and when I say love, I mean IN LOVE) with Disney movies. Now, I'm not so much talking about the Pixar movies (even though those are GREAT movies as well), but the legit ones. Hand-drawn and all. The whole ten yards. Now, though most people love the heroes of the movies or the cute little animals, I tend to side with the evil characters. They have vengeance, sidekicks and are always scheming. To me, that's the good stuff. I'm also in love with the website HelloGiggles (posted the link below). They posted a forum about the top ten favorite evil characters of Disney movies. And the first thought that pops into my head is, "I wonder what kind of lavish rooms these Disney villains would have in their homes if they were real people????" So, in honor of my own curiosity and odd nature, I bring you my visions of what the top nine favorite evil characters of Disney would be living in. Hope you like it!

That one time we had snow..

Snowing. Yes, I said it, snowing. In good ol' Greensboro, North Carolina. I've already sledded in the church's courtyard (don't tell the pastor ;]), made snow-cream, made snow-art and also beautiful snow-angels; all with effortlessness. Needless to say, my nose is red, my toes are tingly and I can't feel parts of my body that I should (oh, heavens). But, in all of that fun today, I thought several times of how truly gorgeous the sparkling, shimmery, white snow really was. Though white is a neutral color and I normally steer away from it when decorating, this snow has really changed my line of direction and brought me to a new design thought process. Though this may not happen too much, I'm posting how an all white room can really make a great pop in a house. Thank you wondrous snow storm for inspiring this montage of white wonderland array of rooms. Enjoy :)

When in doubt, make a magazine..?

School. Homework. Sleep. Drool. Eat. Work. The line-up of my life to a tee. I'm at that age where no matter what I do, it feels like stress. Luckily, my schoolwork consists of drawing, painting and making pretty things (thank the great gods for the artistic nature of interior design!) This week, we were challenged to create a virtual magazine on the style of our liking for this year's spring lineup. This may seem time consuming (and it kind of was), but I truly enjoyed choosing things that make me happy and things I could connect with. And let me just say, this was right up my alley. Tell me I can choose whatever furniture, colors, and fabrics I want, and you'll be my new best friend. Bringing nature in, is the theme. If you are totally in to some boho-chic vibes and cool spunky colors, you should definitely check this out! I pinned the video version of my magazine online. Hope you enjoy it! :)

Could I truly be a time-traveler?

I can more or less bet all the money in the world that I am from a different generation. Just in case you were wondering, yes, I do go to bed at 8:30 in the afternoon and yes I do find the greatest old-lady blouses at the local Goodwill to tuck into my overly high mom-jeans. Now, you may not think that's very cool, but old stuff is genuinely better. It's made better, it has age on it and it has a weirdly awesome connection with a stranger you'll never meet. Out with the old in with the new, you say? I'm not buying that (literally, not buying that.) Just bare with me here; I'm not yelling out to go buy every dusty antique you've ever seen or anything. But there's a time in life where expressing yourself through your home makes you a happier person. It screams "HEY! THIS IS ME!" Just find items that you connect with, things that you love, things that make you happy. These antique and vintage items have already lasted decades, so why not give them a new life in a new house :) Check out the photos below to see how a few old accessories can really bring a room to life!

Is less really more??

If you have any artistic bone in your body, you've probably realized the lack of "there's a place for everything-chromosomes" you may be working with. I mean, think about it; in this time of age, people are accepting the simplicity of life and becoming hardcore minimalists. Calling me a pack-rat may be an understatement, but I still haven't (and probably won't) conform to this new lifestyle that's crazing right now. I have too much stuff. There, I said it. (I probably will never admit that again, so you might want to remember those words slipping from my lips.) But is having too much stuff really that bad of a thing? If there's a purpose for it, why not make use of it, right? Just in-case I haven't won you over yet, check these rooms out that are filled to the top with everything under the sun. Mixing patterns, colors and textures brings a room to life. Plus, a room full of fun oddities and fun quirky favorites can really show the world what's really going on in that brain of yours. So, do yourself a favor, put away the storage box, and let yourself live a little. (I promise, it's well worth it!)
